Introduction
Bafilomycin A is a macrolide antibiotic and a highly potent V-ATPase inhibitor. It has been well researched for its role as an inhibitor of the vascular proton ATPases and has been administered to demonstrate the requirement of low endosomal pH for viral uncoating. Bafilomycin A has been actively studied for its role against viruses like influenza A and hepatitis C. Scientists are studying clinical implications of using Bafilomycin A1 against the SARS-CoV-2 virus as it has been documented that the Nsp6 and M proteins of SARS-CoV-2 interact with the V1-ATPase subunits.
