Animal Model Development for SARS-CoV-2

Creative Biolabs provides animal models development services against SARS-CoV-2 for novel drug discovery and development. Our scientific team has extensive experience in helping our clients with the selection of appropriate models and assays, as well as collaborating to design new models to satisfy the specific requirements of a particular compound or discovery program.

Coronaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses that are distributed broadly among humans, other mammals, and birds, causing respiratory, enteric, hepatic, and neurologic diseases. Seven coronavirus species are known to cause human disease. Four viruses - 229E, OC43, NL63, and HKU1 - are prevalent and typically cause common cold symptoms in immunocompetent individuals. The three other strains - severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) - are zoonotic in origin and have been linked to sometimes fatal illness. The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 has put global public health institutions on high alert again.

In the early stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection, only mild respiratory symptoms appear and later severe acute respiratory infection symptoms occur, with some patients rapidly developing acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute respiratory failure, and other serious complications. To date, thousands of people have been infected with this virus and even some of them have developed into severe diseases. Under this condition, novel vaccines or effective antiviral drugs against SARS-CoV-2 are urgently needed. Therefore, the development of appropriate animal models to assess the potential therapeutic and preventive effect of antiviral drugs and vaccines is of utmost importance.

Animal Model Development Service Provided by Creative Biolabs

As a pioneer company in the field of preclinical drug discovery, Creative Biolabs is able to offer comprehensive animal model development services involving numerous animals. Our professional scientists could help and cooperate with global customers to develop appropriate models in both rodents and non-human primates (NHP) to conduct medical countermeasure research. The speculation that angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) may be the potential receptor of SARS-CoV-2 provides a direction for our scientists to construct the transgenic animal model. Particularly, the experience in constructing a transgenic model for SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV will greatly accelerate the process of transgenic animal model development.

Creative Biolabs is dedicated to accelerating the development of global customers’ projects. With years of experience in the field of animal model development for coronaviruses infection, we offer a cost-effective service with the best quality while upholding the highest ethical standards of animal care and welfare. If you are interested in our service, please feel free to contact us for more details.
